Virginia’s Head Coach Debbie Ryan

“Coming into tonight’s game, we knew that we were in for a physical game. I was not upset with our first half performance, we just were not able to score. At the beginning of the second half we picked up the tempo, which got us back into the game. I was very proud of the way our team played tonight. The way we fought back in the second half shows what Virginia basketball is all about.”

Virginia’s Brandi Teamer

“In the beginning of the game, I was a little over anxious. I was doing things in the first half that were very uncharacteristic of how I play. During halftime, I said to my teammates that if we can score 18 points on Duke (ranked No. 1 in the country) in under three minutes we are certainly not out of any game.”

Virginia’s Cherrise Graham

“Once we scored our first basket at the beginning of the second half, we knew we stood a great chance of getting back into the game.”

Ohio State Head Coach Jim Foster

“A program that has made it to the NCAA tournament in the past 11 years is going to show desperate streaks in winning a game. In the last 3:15 we became a team, executed and won the basketball game. If we can maintain all 40 minutes of sanity, we are a good team.”

“(LaToya Turner) showed a great deal of composure tonight. She came in the four fouls after sitting and came up with some big baskets. She made the right move and had the right reads.”

“I’m not going to feel sorry for ourselves after we won a game by 13 points. (Virginia) is a team with deep tradition. We want to get into the position where we can fight in games just like they did tonight.” On the first half

“We had five turnovers in the first half and executed fairly well. We took advantage of what they were giving us.”

Senior Courtney Coleman

“We knew they were going to come out fighting in the second half. They were a physical and competitive team last year. We came out too relaxed and they went on a run.”

On Ohio State’s second-half play

“We hit some key free throws and got some passes into the post. We were doing everything on a must-need basis. We had to calm down instead of staying in a panic mode. We did the things we needed to do.”

Junior LaToya Turner

On her range from the floor against Virginia “I figured if I’m going to be in the high post, I’m going to have to do something besides hold the ball above my head. I work on my shot everyday in practice and
