Both met with reporters and OhioStateBuckeyes.com earlier this week to talk about their careers, the competition on defense and fall camp.
Both players haven’t received much time on defense the previous seasons, but both are loaded with talent and eager to show what they can do. Sabino, a first team all-Florida recruit from North Miami Beach, added strength and bulk during the offseason to his athletic skills and worked this spring at the mike linebacker. He redshirted in 2010 after serving as a backup in ’09. His freshman season he saw increased time on special teams while backing up James Laurinaitis. His 2008 season was highlighted by a blocked punt that he returned 20 yards in the first quarter against Purdue for that game’s only touchdown.
Klein, the 2008 Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year at Licking Valley High School, has made strong progress in the weight and film rooms and was bothered by injuries during spring drills. Last season he backed up Brian Rolle at middle linebacker, recording 18 tackles for the season. He recorded a 13-yard interception in the Purdue victory and made a pair of solo tackles in Sugar Bowl.
