Head coach and senior co-captain discuss important WCHA series vs. Bemidji State this weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Head coach Jackie Barto and senior co-captain Rachel Davis of the Ohio State women’s hockey team sat down earlier this week to discuss the upcoming series against Bemidji State as well as the sweep of Minnesota State last weekend.

The Buckeyes (11-9-4, 8-8-2-0 WCHA) face the Beavers (7-11-6, 6-6-6-3 WCHA) in a crucial Western Collegiate Hockey Association series this weekend. Only three points separate fifth-place Ohio State and Bemidji State, who is tied for third. The top 4 teams in the conference standings get home ice for the first round of the WCHA playoffs.

Games begin at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink and admission, as always, is free.

A few notes about this weekend:

  • It is the final series freshman forward Minttu Tuominen will play with Ohio State before heading to the Winter Olympics. She meets up with the Finnish National Team next weekend in Colorado before traveling to Vancouver.
  • The Buckeyes will be facing BSU goalie Zuzana Tomcikova, who is also on her way to the Olympics. She is a the goaltender for the Slovakian National Team.
  • “Skate with the Buckeyes” and autograph sessions will follow the Saturday game. Bring your own skates or rentals are available from the OSU Ice Rink.
