The 2019 USA Shooting Rifle & Pistol National Championships took place June 22-29 in Fort Benning, Ga. The top-8 in each event advance to the ‘finals’.’ Several Buckeyes had outstanding performances in this year’s competition.

Rising junior and First Team All-American, Samuel Gens, was the overall champion for 50M Men’s Free Pistol. Additionally, Gens placed sixth in 10M Men’s Air Pistol (third in Juniors).

Emil Milev (OSU head coach) tied for first in his event (25M Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol) before declining to shoot in the finals and still finishing second overall.

In Olympic disciplines (Men’s and Women’s Air Pistol, Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol, and Women’s Sport Pistol), the top three positions qualify for the ISSF World Cup in Rio this September. With his third-place finish in Men’s Air Pistol, Anthony Lutz (OSU assistant coach) has the opportunity to compete further. Additionally, Lutz placed second in the 50M Men’s Free Pistol.

Incoming freshmen Katelyn Abeln and Logan Quinn had significant finishes as well. Abeln placed fourth in 25M Women’s Sport Pistol (second in Juniors) and eighth in 10M Women’s Air Pistol Finals, (top junior). Quinn placed 18th in 10M Men’s Air Pistol (third in Juniors) and fifth in the 25M Junior Men’s Sport Pistol.

Returning Second Team All-American, Bernard Melus, made his mark on the board by placing third in 25M Standard Pistol and 31st in the 10M Men’s Air Pistol.
