Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State junior defender Erica Nollen (West Chester, Ohio) was selected as a member of the 2003 Academic All-America Second Team in District IV Thursday, while Jackie Shirer (Medina, Ohio), the lone senior on the Ohio State squad in 2003, earned recognition as a member of the Academic All-America Third Team.
Nollen, an Academic All-Big Ten recipient in 2002, is one of 11 second-team selections set to represent District IV as candidates for the All-America Team.
Nollen, a leader of an Ohio State defensive squad that has allowed just 14 goals in 19 matches this season en route to a program-best 12-4-3 mark, carries a 3.79 grade point average in mechanical engineering while starting all 61 of her career matches. Nollen has piloted a Buckeye defense that has allowed just 0.70 opponent goals, while also scoring two assists from her position in the OSU backline.
Shirer has provided leadership as the lone senior on the Ohio State squad, while accounting for one goal in the Buckeyes’ win over Youngstown State earlier this season. A two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete, Shirer has accumulated a 3.20 overall grade point average in Psychology.
