COLUMBUS, Ohio – Redshirt sophomore Nathan Tomasello and redshirt freshman Micah Jordan will take their undefeated records with them into the semifinals of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational tomorrow, highlighting the third-ranked Buckeyes’ efforts on Friday.

In the overall team standings, Ohio State is currently in seventh place with 50.5 points. Oklahoma leads the way with 85 points, followed by Missouri (81.5), Minnesota (78.5), Cornell (69), Virginia Tech (58.5) and Michigan (51).

Tomasello, the top seed and defending national champion at 125 lbs., had little trouble in the first two rounds, rolling to a victory by fall over Connor Bolling of Nebraska just before the end of the first period and a 14-3 major decision against Minnesota’s Skyler Petry. In the quarterfinals, he gutted out a 9-4 decision at ninth-seeded Paul Petrov of Bucknell, getting at least one takedown in all three periods. Tomasello has a date tomorrow with 16th-ranked and 12th seeded Ryan Milhoff of Oklahoma.

Fifth-seeded Jordan won two of his three matches on the day via bonus points, getting a 17-4 major decision in the first round over Luke Rowh of Wisconsin and punching his ticket to the semifinals via a 14-7 major decision over Robbie Mathers of Arizona State. Jordan will face top-seeded Solomon Chishko of Virginia Tech in tomorrow’s semis.

Johnni DiJulius, a redshirt senior and the CKLV Invitational champion in 2013, won his first two matches before taking an injury default against Virginia’s George DiCamillo in the quarterfinals. DiJulius had defeated DiCamillo earlier in the season during the Buckeyes’ 34-6 dual meet victory.

Cody Burcher bounced back from an opening-round loss to eighth-seeded Geordan Martinez of Boise State at 149 lbs. to register back to back falls in the consolation round, the latter coming in just 35 seconds against Coleman Hammond of CSU Bakersfield.

Seeded third, returning All-American Kenny Courts picked up a tech fall in his first match of the day and then gutted out a 3-1 decision in the next round to advance to the quarters. His run in the championship bracket ended, however, with a 3-0 loss to Michigan’s Dominic Abounader, who was seeded sixth.

Tavanello was Ohio State’s final quarterfinalist, getting a fall in the opening round and a decision in the second round before falling to fourth-seeded Ross Larson of Oklahoma, 5-2.

Semifinal action gets underway tomorrow at 10 a.m. PST (1 p.m. EST). Live results and video can be found at
