COLUMBUS, Ohio – Twenty one members of the 2021 Ohio State women’s soccer team earned OSU Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2020-21 academic year, the Ohio State Department of Athletics announced Monday.
The group was part of 799 Ohio State student-athletes recognized with the honor.
Several seniors who played their final seasons in the spring also were lauded for their academic achievements.
Outgoing seniors Alyssa Baumbick, Meghan Kammerdeiner, Olivia Petit and Maggie Samanich were recognized with 2021 OSU Scholar-Athlete accolades. Baumbick was a Third Team All-Big Ten selection this year for the 8-3-3 Buckeyes, who advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Izzy Rodriguez, the Big Ten Defender of the Year, along with junior Kayla Fischer were named First Team All-Big Ten in addition to OSU Scholar Athletes. Rodriquez recently was named a 2021 First Team Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches. Junior Kayla Fischer was named to the Scholar All-America Second Team.
Peyton McNamara, the Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Year, also performed well in the classroom as did sophomore Emma Sears, who made the All-Big Ten Second team this spring.
To receive the OSU Scholar Athlete distinction, student-athletes must carry a 3.0 or better grade-point average.
