Columbus, Ohio – Three Buckeye gymnasts, Elizabeth Meaney, Kaylin Schlecht and Karley Walek, concluded their 2005 season, Saturday, with a strong showing at the NCAA Central Region Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Meaney competed on beam, while Schlecht competed on bars. Walek competed as an all-arounder.
Meaney (Jr., Ashtabula, Ohio) placed third on beam with a score of 9.850, while teammate Schlecht (Jr., Marion, Ohio/River Valley) finished fourth on bars with a score of 9.825.
Walek (Fr., Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock) posted an all-around score of 37.925 to place 17th. She finished the evening with scores of 9.600 on bars, 9.050 on beam, 9.600 on floor and 9.625 on vault.
In the team competition, Alabama took first place with a score of 196.675 while Kentucky nabbed runner-up laurels with a 193.325. The teams will represent the Central Region at the NCAA Championships April 21-23 in Auburn, Ala.
