COLUMBUS, Ohio – Outfielders Kade Kern and Trey Lipsey and pitcher Isaiah Coupet have all been selected to Perfect Game’s Preseason All-Big Ten Team.
Kern, a junior, played in 49 games in 2022 and started in 46 at center field. He batted .298 with 57 hits, including 15 doubles, one triple and nine homeruns, scored 29 runs and batted in 49 runs. Kern was second on the team in doubles, homeruns, RBIs and total bases (101). He was 11-for-13 in swiped bags. Kern was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection.
Lipsey enters his sophomore season in 2023. He started at left field in 50 of the Buckeyes’ 51 games last season. Lipsey batted .293 with 48 hits, 37 runs scored and 26 RBIs. He added six doubles, two triples and seven homeruns and was 14-for-17 in stolen bases. He played error-free baseball in 2022, finishing the season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Lipsey earned Big Ten All-Freshman honors at the conclusion of the season.
Southpaw Coupet, who enters his junior campaign, started all 13 games he appeared in in 2022. He fanned 98 batters in 64.2 innings of work. Coupet finished the season with a 5-5 record and a 5.71 ERA.
The Buckeyes kick off the 2023 season with a four-game series versus UCONN in Florida Feb. 17-20.
