ATHENS, Ga. – For the second-straight season, Ohio State junior Mikael Torpegaard is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship, which begins on Wednesday in Athens, Ga. The Denmark native finished runner-up at the event last year.
Torpegaard is one of five Buckeyes staying to compete this week in the singles and doubles championship. He will open the singles tournament against Oregon’s Thomas Laurent on Wednesday and then team with Herkko Pollanen to take on Arkansas’ Mike Redlicki and Jose Salazar on Thursday in the first round of the doubles championship.
Hugo Di Feo, a singles All-American this season, is the No. 7 seed in the singles draw and will open against Emil Reinberg of host Georgia. He is then joined by sophomore Martin Joyce for the doubles tournament as they will play the top-seeded team of Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski from Georgia.
Freshman JJ Wolf is the third Buckeye in singles draw and he will open play against North Carolina’s William Blumberg. Blumberg is competing in the team finals on Tuesday and is the Tar Heels’ highest ranked player at No. 16.
By virtue of their top-8 seed, both Torpegaard and Di Feo have already earned All-America status. If Wolf or either doubles team were to win a pair of matches this week, they would also earn All-America accolades.
