COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nathan Tomasello, a redshirt junior on the fourth-ranked Ohio State wrestling team, has been named the Big Ten co-Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced today.
In the Buckeyes’ 29-18 win over Illinois last Sunday, Tomasello earned a 12-4 major decision over fourth-ranked Zane Richards at 133 lbs. The win propelled him to the No. 1 spot this week in every major rankings service. Ohio State now has three No. 1 ranked wrestlers – Tomasello, Bo Jordan (174 lbs.) and Kyle Snyder (HWT) – which is the most of any team in the country.
At 9-0 on the year, Tomasello is one of four undefeated wrestlers in Ohio State’s lineup. He also own a team-best four wins over ranked opponents. Against Richards, he took the 2016 Big Ten runner-up and All-American down three times in the first period, built a 7-2 lead and then took him down in the waning seconds of the third period to secure the bonus-point victory.
The Buckeyes (7-0) are one of just four unbeaten teams nationally and are in action against on Sunday, Jan. 22 when they face Maryland at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md.
