COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State sophomore Tim Phillips helped lead No. 8 Ohio State to a thrilling, 151-149, victory over No. 15 Tennessee last Friday and, for his efforts, the Big Ten Conference has named him as its Swimmer of the Week. This is the first weekly award for Phillips and second of the year for Ohio State. Zach Holmes was named honored by the conference for his efforts in the team’s season-opening win over Kenyon.
Phillips captured top honors in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly and he was also part of the team’s winning 200 medley relay. His 200-yard freestyle time of 1:37.84 is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Phillips, from Vienna, W.Va. and Parkersburg High School, and the Buckeyes will be competing this week in the seven-team Purdue Invitational.
