COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s swim program sent three Buckeyes to compete at the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open from Dec. 4-7 in Atlanta, Ga. Senior Alex Dillmann represented the men while senior Kathrin Demler and junior Kristen Romano swam for the women.
Demler swam in three events and appeared in all three “A” finals. In the 200 meter IM, Demler finished fifth overall in the opening heats with a time of 2:13.62 and then picked up another fifth place finish in the final with a new long course meter school record and personal best time of 2:13.23.
In the 400 meter IM, Demler placed eighth in her preliminary swim (4:45.63) and improved her time in the “A” final for a seventh place finish at 4:43.85. In her final event of the weekend, Demler finished fifth overall in the 200 meter butterfly and then took fifth again in the final, once again improving her time from 2:10.83 to 2:10.56.
Romano also competed in both the 200 and 400 IM, touching the wall at 2:22.94 and 5:00.86, respectively. She improved on her season-best time in the 400 IM as she finished at 5:02.22 at the OSU Invitational. In her final event, Romano swam for a time of 2:20.06 in the 200 meter backstroke, also improving on her time set at the OSU Invitational (2:21.20).
Dillmann swam in two events on the weekend including the 100 and 200 meter butterfly. He swam for a time of 55.38 in the 100 meter prelim while finishing at 2:02.05 in the 200 meter prelim, earning him a spot in the “C” final where he place third at 2:01.08. Dillmann set a season best in the 200 meter butterfly, beating his time of 2:04.65 against Texas A&M.
