COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Jenn Sciulli, junior Berta Queralt, and sophomore Paula Pastor-Pitarque were among 21 student-athletes named to the 2011 Big Ten Field Hockey Players to Watch list the league announced.

Sciulli, a back from Palmyra, Pa., is a second team NFHCA All-West Region and All-Big Ten selection, earning the team’s Defensive Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season after leading the conference with a career-high eight defensive saves in 2010. The two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, who continued her streak of starting every career game with 23 starts last fall, is third on the all-time career defensive saves list at Ohio State with 14 three seasons.

Queralt, a forward from Barcelona, Spain, is a two-time third team All-American for the Scarlet and Gray. The two-time first team NFHCA and Big Ten selection became the first freshman in program history to be named an All-American during the 2009 campaign. Last season, the OSU forward broke the single-season assists record with 27, which led the Big Ten. The two-time NFHCA National Academic honoree leads all active Buckeyes in multiple career categories, including points (93), goals (27), assists (39) and gamewinners (8).

Pastor-Pitarque, a midfielder from Barcelona, Spain, is a second team NFHCA All-West Region and first team All-Big Ten selection for Ohio State. The 2010 Big Ten Freshman of the Year saw action in all 23 games for Ohio State with 22 starts and finished fifth best on the team with 26 points. Her nine goals tied for fourth, while her eight goals finished third on the squad.

The Buckeyes open the 2011 season Friday with a 2 p.m. game against No. 15 Duke at Buckeye Varsity Field. Ohio State follows with another 2 p.m. game Saturday, facing New Hampshire.
