Three Buckeyes Claim Big Ten Weekly Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten announced its weekly women’s volleyball awards on Monday. Three Buckeyes claimed weekly awards with junior opposite Emily Londot being named Player of the Week, senior libero Kylie Murr being named Defensive Player of the Week and senior setter Mac Podraza being named Setter of the Week.

Londot led the Buckeyes to four-set wins at No. 15 Purdue and against No. 4 Nebraska last week, averaging 5.25 kills, 4.00 digs and a block per set and tallying two double-doubles on the week. Against the Boilermakers, Londot matched her (then) season-high 19 kills (hitting .368) and added 11 digs and four blocks. Against the Huskers, Londot totaled 23 kills (just one shy of her career-high), hitting .353, and had a career-high 21 digs in addition to four blocks. These are her ninth and 10th double-doubles of the season, leading the team. This season, Londot leads the team with 3.87 kills/set and 4.42 points/set, both of which rank fifth in the Big Ten. She’s also second on the team (leads non-liberos) with 2.53 digs/set. This is Londot’s third player of the week honor this season.

Murr was locked in on defense in Ohio State’s four-set wins at No. 15 Purdue and against No. 4 Nebraska last week, averaging 5.63 digs per set and adding 1.25 assists per set. Against the Boilermakers, Murr led all players with 21 digs and added four assists. Against the Huskers, she matched her season-high 24 digs to tie the match-high and had six assists and two aces. This marked the sixth and seventh time this season that Murr has surpassed 20 digs, all coming in conference play. Murr currently ranks second in program history with 1,784 career digs, while the all-time leader has 1,795 career digs. This season, Murr is averaging 4.36 digs per set to rank second in the Big Ten and third in single-season program history – a number that she’s increased to 4.73 digs per set in conference play. This is Murr’s third defensive player of the week honor this season.

Podraza beautifully directed the Buckeye offense to four-set wins at No. 15 Purdue and against No. 4 Nebraska last week, averaging 13.38 assists per set and adding 2.38 digs per set. Against the Boilermakers, Podraza totaled 52 assists and had eight digs and three blocks, also hitting 4-of-9 without an error (.444). Against the Huskers, Podraza moved up to fifth in program history with 3,653 career assists after putting up 55 assists. She also added 11 digs for her ninth double-double of the season and three kills without an error. This season, Podraza has consistently led the Big Ten in assists per set (11.06), a number she’s increased to 11.29 assists/set in conference play. She’s also averaging 2.37 digs per set overall. This is Podraza’s fifth setter of the week honor this season.
