COLUMBUS, Ohio – The first of four preliminary days at the NCAA East Prelims in Jacksonville, Fla., are in the books and three Ohio State men’s performers have moved on to the quarterfinal round in a total of four events. After an off day tomorrow, the men’s competition will resume on Friday at the University of North Florida’s Hodges Stadium.
Eric Harrison, whose fine spring campaign includes a Big Ten championship in the 200 meters, has advanced out of the first round in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He qualified 13th in the 100 – the top 24 advance in each event – with a time of 10.21 and he qualified ninth in the 200 with a time of 20.62.
Big Ten champions Tyler Johnson (400) and Nick Miller (800) each advanced in their specialty. Johnson was 11th in the 400 with a time of 46.08 while Miller was 11th in the 800 in 1:49.12.
Four other Buckeyes competed Thursday but did not advance: Kainnan Ramsey and Adrian Curry in the 100; Donnie James in the 200 and 400; and Luke Bendick in the pole vault. Robby Oswald attempted to vault but was unable to because of the lingering injury he suffered in his final jump at Big Tens. Tyler Johnson also competed in the 200 but appeared to shut things down midway through the race. He finished but did not advance.
The Ohio State women will be competing on Thursday. A total of 12 individuals will be competing in nine events, starting at 1:30 p.m. with Sade Olatoye and Sarah Stanley competing in the hammer throw and the javelin, respectively.
