%^$Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Evanston, Ill. to take on the Northwestern Wildcats in a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. (CST). The Buckeyes will then take on No. 15 Iowa in a two-game series on Saturday (6 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m. CST).%^$

%^$Under head coach Sharon Drysdale, the Northwestern Wildcats ( 20-19, 9-4) upset No. 11-ranked Michigan last weekend, 1-0 and 12-0. Inside the circle, Lauren Schwendimann leads the Wildcats with a 1.81 ERA and an 11-9 record. She completely shutdown the Wolverines on Sunday by pitching her first perfect game in her career.%^$

%^$Northwestern leads the all-time series, 47-19-1. Last year, Ohio State went 2-1 against the Wildcats, winning two games, 8-4 and 11-2, but falling, 10-3, on May 1-2, 1999. Head coach Linda Kalafatis holds a career mark of 5-4 against Northwestern.%^$

%^$The Iowa Hawkeyes (36-10, 10-2) are on a five-game winning streak after downing Northern Iowa, 3-0, and Iowa State, 4-3, on Tuesday and Wednesday. In Big Ten action, the Hawkeyes defeated Michigan State, 8-2 and 3-2, on Saturday and Sunday. Under the helm of head coach Gayle Blevins, the Hawkeyes are in first place of the conference with a 10-2 mark. For all games, freshman Jessica Bashor is second in the conference in batting with a .393 batting average, 46 hits and 28 runs batted in.%^$

%^$The Hawkeyes lead the all-time series with a 45-27 record against the Buckeyes. Last year, Iowa defeated the Buckeyes, 3-0 and 2-0, but fell in the last game to Ohio State, 8-7. Head Coach Linda Kalafatis is 1-8 against Iowa.%^$

%^$The Buckeyes blasted non-conference foe Wright State in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Buckeyes won,5-3 and 2-1. Offensively for the Buckeyes, Kristine Himes went 4-for-7 with two runs batted in.%^$

%^$* Anna Smith – Smith has broken the OSU single-season record with 25 thefts this season. She now has a career mark of 34 steals.
%^$* Kristine Himes – She not only leads the Buckeyes with an OSU record of seven home run dings, she also has stepped up in the last five games, now posting a .313 batting average, 10 hits and seven RBI in conference action.
%^$* Kristi Martin – She is back after sitting out for two weeks because of injuries sustained in a car wreck. She leads the Buckeyes with a 1.74 ERA in 16 appearances.
%^$* Jennifer Link – She leads the freshman class with a batting average of .278, 37 hits and 15 runs batted in.
%^$* Team Batting – As a team, the Buckeyes are ranked fourth in the conference with a batting average of .276.

%^$The Buckeyes fell in the first game to Minnesota, 8-2, but came back in the second game to win, 5-3, on Friday, April 21. Ohio State then split against Wisconsin, defeating the Badgers, 5-3, but falling in the second game on Sunday, 4-0.%^$

%^$In her fourth season as the head coach, Linda Kalafatis is only three wins away from posting her 100th win at Ohio State. Her record at Ohio State is 97-106 and her career mark is 370-221-2.%^$

%^$With her two stolen bases against Wright State, Anna Smith set an OSU single-season record for steals with a total of 25 this season. She now has a career mark of 34 steals, tying her for ninth place on the all-time OSU record list.%^$

%^$Against Minnesota on April 21, Kristine Himes belted her seventh home run of the season, breaking the single-season record held by teammate Renae Weigel (6).%^$

%^$With Kristine Himes’ homer against Minnesota, the Buckeyes have now tallied a team record of 23 this season. This breaks the 1997 team record for home runs of 18.%^$

%^$Renae Weigel also posted her 12th home run of her career against Michigan State on March 16, tying her for first place on Ohio State’s all-time record list for HR’s.%^$

%^$As a team, Ohio State is ranked third in batting in conference play heading into this weekend. Ohio State is batting .291 in the Big Ten and .276 overall. Individually, Stacy Roth is fourth with a .386 BA, 49 hits and 36 runs batted in. Anna Smith is second in the conference with a total of 23 stolen bases.%^$

%^$Ohio State is still unable to pull the upset against ranked schools. The Buckeyes are 0-7 against ranked teams.%^$

%^$Stacy Roth is well on her way to setting several single-season records. Roth is tied for second with 36 runs batted in this season. She only needs seven more to pass Jen Fredrickson on the RBI single-season record book. She is in second behind teammate Kristine Himes on the single-season record list for home runs with six dings.%^$

%^$In the April 26 USATODAY/NFCA Poll, the Big Ten Conference has two teams ranked in the Top 15. Michigan and Iowa are ranked No. 13 and No. 15, respectively. As a conference, the Big Ten ranks fifth in the nation with a batting average of .274 and seventh with an ERA of 2.27.%^$

%^$While Renae Weigel only needs one more home run to break the career record for home runs, she also only needs eight more runs batted in to break the all-time career RBI total of 97 at OSU.%^$

%^$Chrissy Fowler will be out for several weeks after notching a foul ball into her right eye against Michigan State on March 16. Fowler sustained a bruised right eye. Kristi Martin made her first start back against Wisconsin, pitching two innings on Sunday. She is back after sustaining back and neck injuries from a car accident on April 9.%^$

%^$Senior Renae Weigel was named by her teammates as captain of the 2000 softball team. As the only Buckeye who has been at Ohio State all four seasons, Weigel will resume her role as Ohio State’s top hitter and leader of the squad. Last season, the Coldwater, Ohio native had another breakout season, posting a single-season home run mark with six and finishing third overall in both batting average (.301) and conference BA (.324).%^$

%^$Jaime Chenevey returns to the Buckeyes this season as an assistant coach. She was a four-time letterwinner and was selected as a second-team all-Big Ten selection as the Buckeyes’ catcher. She still holds the No. 2 spot on the Ohio State career home run ladder with nine. Last summer, She competed on the Akron Racers of the Women’s Professional Softbal League with former Buckeye Jodi Dolan. She is a graduate student of Ohio State in agriculture education.%^$

%^$Ohio State will be on the road for the next two weekends. The Buckeyes will travel to Evanston, Ill. to compete against Northwestern in a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. (CST). The Buckeyes will then battle Iowa on Saturday and Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa. Next weekend, Ohio State takes on Penn State in a two-game series on Saturday and Sunday.%^$

%^$Ohio State will host its last home games of the season against Oakland on May 3 and Robert Morris on May 4. Both are scheduled doubleheaders and begin at 3 p.m.%^$

%^$Coach Kalafatis signed one of the best recruiting classes in the nation to be added next season. Wendy Allen (Moreno Valley, Calif.), Kristi DeVries (Corona Calif.) and Beth McAbier (Carrollton, Ohio) all signed letters of intents to attend Ohio State in 2001. Allen, a left-hand pitcher, was one-of-16 players in the nation to be named a National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association All-American. DeVries is a high school All-American pitcher who notched a 24-6 record last season with 321 strikeouts and 23 walks. McAbier, a shortstop, was a two-time all-conference pick and three-sport student-athlete at Carrollton High School.
