COLUMBUS, Ohio — Brutus Buckeye, one of the most visible symbols of Ohio State athletics, was voted by the fans as the 2009 Capital One Mascot Challege Write-In Winner.
By winning the write-in vote online, Ohio State will receive $1,000 for its mascot program and will be eligible to compete for the $20,000 prize in 2010.
In 2003, Brutus was voted a finalist, winning the popular vote as voted on by the fans before being inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2007.
A total of 12 mascots competed this season in the 2009 mascot challenge, with the University of Cincinnati’s Bearcat winning the vote. More information can be found at www.capitalonebowl.com.
