Thank You, Buckeye Nation

By: Liz Schepers

Dear Buckeye Club,

I am extremely humbled and honored to be writing this letter after five amazing years at The Ohio State University. Today I become a Buckeye graduate, and I will soon be continuing my education at the College of St. Scholastica, where I will pursue my dream of becoming a doctor of physical therapy. Additionally, I am exploring opportunities that will allow me to continue my hockey career professionally.

My time at Ohio State has taught me an immense amount about myself, and has helped me develop into the person I am today. The experiences I have had, and support I have felt from Buckeye Nation, have given me the confidence to take on anything I set my mind to. For that I will forever be grateful.

Wearing the Scarlet and Gray for five years, and captaining two teams, has been the ultimate dream come true. Being a part of so many firsts for our women’s ice hockey program makes me extremely proud of the legacy I have left on this Athletics Department, and I am deeply thankful for the support I have received as a member of this university. From our first ever NCAA Tournament and Frozen Four appearance, winning two conference tournaments in three years, to capping off my career with our first ever NCAA National Championship, I will cherish every moment of my time here. As a high schooler that was not highly recruited, the investments that Ohio State has made in me resulted in a career greater than anything I ever imagined for myself.

Ohio State develops its student-athletes better than any institution in the country. As a leader, student, and community member, I have felt equally challenged and supported by the programs within the Eugene D. Smith Leadership Institute. Through the Lead Like a Buckeye program, Wolstein Leadership Academy, and Bucks Go Pro internship program, I have been given the tools necessary to help me find even greater success after my time at Ohio State concludes.

As I move on from Ohio State, and into my role as proud alumni, I will carry the accomplishments, lessons, and most importantly, friendships with me forever. There is truly nothing like being a Buckeye, and that is thanks to the incredible support we receive and feel in every aspect of our experience here. For me, Ohio State represented opportunity, and the ability to create whatever future I wanted for myself. I will forever be grateful to those that provided me with these opportunities and believed in me every day.

Thank you and Go Buckeyes!
