Teams Scarlet and Gray Battle in 2021 Intrasquad Meet

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State swim and dive program competed in the annual Scarlet and Gray meet on Friday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The divers competed in the morning while the swimmers raced in the afternoon as Team Gray took first in the diving competition and Team Scarlet earned a 288.5-234.5 win over Team Gray in the swim meet.

Team Gray’s Hunter Armstrong and Team Scarlet’s Kristen Romano and Ruslan Gaziev led the Buckeyes with three individual race wins on the afternoon. Armstrong earned wins for his team in the 75 Back, 25 Free and 300 Free. Gaziev won the 150 Free, 75 Free and 75 Fly for the Scarlet men and Romano won the 150 Fly, 150 Back and 250 IM.

Six Buckeyes won two individual races during the meet, including Team Scarlet’s Sally Tafuto, Josie Panitz, and Thomas Watkins and Team Gray’s Emily Crane, Kit Kat Zenick and Jason Mathews. Mathews shared the win of the 75 Breast with Team Scarlet’s Hudson McDaniel, as both raced a 39.28.

The teams split the relays as Team Scarlet’s men’s B relay comprised of RJ Kondalski, McDaniel, Alex Quach and Gaziev took first in the men’s 200 Medley Relay and the A relay of Quach, Shaw Satterfield, James Ward and Kondalski won the 400 Free Relay. The Gray women’s A relay team of Emily Crane, Hannah Bach, Kit Kat Zenick and Teresa Ivan won the 200 Medley Relay while Zenick, Crane, Ivan and Gwen Woodbury won the 400 Free Relay.

The Buckeye diving squad’s Gray team of Joey Canova, Clay Chaplin and Mackenzie Crawford took first place, earning 383.6 points. The divers were divided into four teams and shared a dive list for the competition.

4th place – 359.8 (Scarlet) Lyle Yost, Mike Parker and Amanda Ling

The Buckeyes officially open the season Friday, Oct. 29 and 30 as Ohio State hosts Virginia Tech, Indiana and Penn State in a two-day double dual.
