COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nicolas Szerszen produced nearly five and a half points per set during a three-match week for the Buckeyes and was tabbed the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association’s Offensive Player of the Week for his superb efforts. In just the second week of his sophomore campaign, Szerszen picks up his third career MIVA weekly honor – doing so twice as a freshman.
Forty-five kills, seven aces and a .300 attacking efficiency highlighted his stat line as Ohio State won two of three matches last week. In the lone defeat to then-No. 5 UCLA (now ranked second), Szerszen posted a double-double with 21 kills and 11 digs. While the offensive numbers secured MIVA laurels, he was also the Buckeye nomination for Defensive Player of the Week. Szerszen averaged 1.80 digs and .40 blocks per set while successfully handling all 33 service receptions sent in his direction.
