COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State came in first at its third annual Jessica Beck Memorial Meet Saturday at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes won, tallying 91 points and were followed by Lindenwood in second with 73 points and Michigan in third with 53.5 points. Miami (OH) placed fourth (38) while Ball State rounded out the competition in fifth (19.5).

Between the solo and team events, senior Becky Kim swam a solo routine dedicated to Jessica Beck, an Ohio State synchronized swimmer who past away Sept. 15, 2005 from natural causes. Beck, who was 21 and a native of Richmond, Va., would have competed in her senior season in 2006.

Kim is the only current member of the Buckeye squad who competed with Beck.

The Scarlet and Gray went 1-2 in the team routine. Ohio State’s Scarlet squad, consisting of Jayme DeLancy, Meghan Kinney, Carmen Moraes, Barbara Nesbitt, Jillian Penner, Deborah Shim, Caitlin Stewart and Michelle Theriault, finished first with a mark of 95.167.  Liz Derr, Monica Finnigan, Rita Gillan, Katherine Green, Jackie Mundy, Lauren Robinson, Emilie Siemer and Kendra Sollars of the Gray team placed second with a score of 92.667.

Nesbitt won the solo routine, swimming to a score of 92.833 while Green, who swam an exhibition routine so her score does not count in the final point tally, finished second with a mark of 89.167.

In the duet portion of the competition, Ohio State garnered the Top 2 spots with the Penner and Kinney combo taking first (91.167) and teammates Shively and Robinson second (88.000). Shively and Robinson’s routine was an exhibition so the score did not count toward the team’s total points.

The Buckeyes also earned first and second place in the trio event. Shim, Nesbitt and Theriault finished second (91.83), behind teammates Moraes, Stewart and Kinney who garnered a mark of 93.500 to win.

Ohio State hit the road next week for two meets, travelling to Virginia to compete against Richmond Feb. 14 and William & Mary Feb. 15.
