COLUMBUS, Ohio – A number of student-athletes from the Ohio State swimming & diving team have earned academic honors, as the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) and Big Ten have announced their Scholar All-America team and Distinguished Scholar honorees, respectively. Thirty-one Buckeyes were named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans, as well as 20 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.
Nineteen were selected as CSCAA First Team Scholar All-Americans, up from 15 last season. In order to achieve First Team status, students must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and competed at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Eleven from the women’s team earned the honor, increasing the record set last season of 10 First Team selections. The total for the men’s team nearly doubled, as the amount jumped from five last season to nine for the 2018-19 season.
An additional 12 were named Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans, bringing the total for Ohio State to 31. Honorable Mention selections must have also achieved a 3.50 GPA, as well as a “B” time standard or competed at an NCAA Regional or Zone Diving qualifier.
On top of the CSCAA honors, 20 were recognized as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, contributing to OSU’s record of 131 student-athletes to lead the conference. In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must be in at least her second year on campus and earn a 3.7 or better grade-point average during the 2018-19 academic year.
