Redshirt senior J.C. Murasky enters the 2016 season as one of the top collegiate throwers in the nation. A shot put specialist, Murasky, a native of Zanesville, Ohio, was a First Team All-American last season and the Big Ten outdoor runner-up in the shot put. He set a PR of 20.16 meters (66-1.75) in the shot put last season, good for third all-time in the Ohio State record book.

Student Life

  • • What is the best time of year on campus?

The best time of year in my opinion on campus is fall. Mostly for the cooler temperatures, but also for the colors that invade campus with the changing of the leaves
• What is your preferred mode of transportation to class? I prefer to walk, it gives me time to myself and walk times to destinations are easier to predict than bus loops
• What has been your favorite or most interesting class at OSU? My favorite class so far at OSU was Intercultural Communication with Dr. Holt. The material itself was interesting, but the way in which Professor Holt taught the class made it incredibly enjoyable for me
• If you had to give an incoming student advice, what would it be? Don’t come into college with a set major in mind. Get some GECs out of the way and feel out which classes you like/don’t like, then make your decision from there
Pop Culture

  • • What social media do you prefer?

I prefer Instagram, though I don’t post often out of season
• Which do you watch more: Netflix or TV? Netflix for sure. I’m a TV series binge-watcher
• Would you rather read the book or watch the movie? I’d rather watch the movie with friends
• What song can you not help but sing-a-long to? “Hello” by Adele
• What was the last movie that you saw in theaters? Star Wars: The Force Awakens Sports

  • • When is your favorite time of your sport’s season?

Championship season outdoors, basically May through July. This is the time when Big Ten championships, NCAA championships, and USA championships occur

• Do you have any pre-game/match superstitions or rituals? Not really. I just put some music on and get in my zone
• What is your favorite part about your sport? My favorite part of track and field is that at the end of the day, the way I perform hinges solely on me, not my teammates. I can’t put blame on anyone else when I perform poorly. It makes for very good motivation to do well!
• What is your favorite athletic memory? My favorite athletic memory is throwing at the outdoor Big Ten championships in 2015 and hitting my PR of 20.16 meters. The emotions and elation that followed that throw are unmatched by any other athletic experience I’ve ever had

  • • Where is your favorite place to eat at in Columbus?

My favorite place to eat in Columbus is either Thurman Café or Schmidt’s
• What is the best meal you have ever eaten, and where did you get it from/who made it? The best meal I’ve ever had would have to be from Texas de Brazil. All I’ll say is, if you like meat, you NEED to go to this place

• If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be? Flight. If I could fly anywhere I wanted to that would be nice
• Do you have an interesting nickname? The seniors used to call me Thundercat because I had a Thundercats cutoff my freshman year that I would practice in
• If you could switch places with anyone on your team for a day, who would you choose? I don’t think I would particularly like any of the workouts that other event areas have to do seeing as they’re based on running, so I don’t think I would want to switch with anyone
