Strong Effort Falls Short in 2-0 Setback to #2 UNC

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State played hard and played sound in front of a large crowd at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Sunday, pushing No. 2 North Carolina for the full 90 minutes. But the Tar Heels took advantage of two of their limited opportunities and came away with a 2-0 victory.

The Buckeyes (2-2) outshot the Heels 18-13 on the game and 9-4 on shots on goals. Freshman Kailyn Dudukovich led the team with five shot attempts, four of which were on goal.

Ohio State had North Carolina on its heels in the opening half, outshooting the Tar Heels 12-3. UNC goalie Claudia Dickey made seven of her nine saves in the first half. The Buckeye defense also played well for the full 90, not allowing the Tar Heels to get connected in the scoring third.

How it Happened

UNC got on the board first in the 17th minute as Avery Patterson scored off a set piece. The Tar Heels made it 2-0 in the 50th minute as Avery Patterson drilled a point-blank shot that Buckeye keeper Bailey Kolinski made a great stop on but the rebound found the foot of Rachael Dorwart and she put it in the open net.
