Sean Mohney joined The Ohio State University’s Performance Nutrition staff in August of 2021. As a Performance Dietitian, he manages the nutrition coverage of Men’s Basketball, Men’s Lacrosse, Wrestling, Baseball, and Men’s Ice Hockey.
Prior to his current role, Mohney served under Randy Bird as an Assistant Director of Sports Nutrition at the University of Virginia (UVA) from 2019 to 2021. He worked with 12 teams, including the 2019 & 2021 National Championship Men’s Lacrosse team, 2019 National Championship Runner-Up Men’s Soccer team, and 2020 College Cup Women’s Soccer team. He also completed a year-long sports nutrition internship with the UVA sports nutrition staff in 2018 and primarily assisted with Football, including the 2018 Belk Bowl, and the 2019 National Championship Men’s Basketball team.
Mohney received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Mount Union in 2015. A former student-athlete, he competed on the baseball team as a four-year second baseman and served as a team captain for the 2015 season. He later completed a combined master’s degree in nutrition and dietetic internship at Kent State University in 2017.
Mohney is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics. He belongs to the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA) and Sports and Cardiovascular Nutritionists (SCAN) dietetic practice group. He also volunteers on the CPSDA’s Board of Directors selection committee.
Mohney is a native of Medina, Ohio. He and his wife, Sarah, reside in Columbus with their daughter, Olivia.
