Prior to Ohio State
- Three-time (2019, 2021, 2022) Ohio Division I State champion … ended high school career with a 170-5 record
- Won state titles at 195 as a freshman and junior and was a qualifier at that weight as a sophomore before the tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19
- Finished 2021 with a 30-1 record in a season shortened by injury
- Posted a 50-1 record in 2019 … put together a 43-0 record as a freshman
- Runner up at the Fargo junior freestyle national tournament in the summer of 2021
- Part of the nation’s top recruiting class in 2022 … ranked No. 19 recruit overall
Personal
- Son of Mitch and Jody Shumate
- Has one sibling, Leah, an Ohio University volleyball commit
- Lettered four years in wrestling at Dublin Coffman High School
- Plans to coach someday and continue wrestling internationally with the intention of making the US Olympic Team
- Would like to start a club program to assist financially disadvantaged youth
- Enjoys playing video games and spending time with family
- Greatest sports thrill is winning the state title as a freshman in HS and looking over at school/family section and seeing everybody really excited, then hitting a backflip for them
