  • Skated three seasons with Cranbrook high school and won 2015 state championship, with his brother on the team

Personal

  • Son of Chet, an orthodontist, and Nicole, a headhunter
  • Has an older brother, Alec, and a younger sister, Brianna; Alec was drafted by the Red Wings in the third round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, was on the Blackhawks postseason roster in 2020; stepbrother Keeghan Howdeshell signed with AHL Tucson for 2019-20
  • Played with Buckeye Evan Moyse at Wichita Falls prior to Ohio State
  • Skated against Buckeye Quinn Preston (Trenton High School) in high school hockey
  • First started skating at age 3 and playing hockey at age 5; father was the team dentist for the Red Wings for 30 years and got him into the game
  • Chose No. 65 because “I love the way Erik Karlsson plays and this is the first time in my life I was able to pick a number above 31. I could think of no better number to wear.”
  • Plans to major in engineering and would like to become an architect
