We offer individual counseling sessions to student-athletes to enhance their mental health and sport performance. Those challenges include but are not limited to difficulty managing anxiety, homesickness, depression/sadness, interpersonal relationships & dating, lack of motivation, performance slumps.
We offer group counseling on various topics related to the student-athlete experience that meet once a week during scheduled times throughout the fall, spring and summer semesters. While topics vary, each group (typically 5-10 participants) is lead by one or two SPAWS staff members to facilitate discussion on the designated topic.
All of our staff are trained to work with a range of performance and clinical concerns. We provided presentations on a variety to topics to teams on an individualized basis per the coaches request and team needs.
Once a month our team provides continuing education on a wide range of topics to coaches and athletic staff members to support them in their roles with student-athletes. Those topics included but are not limited to best practices for supporting student-athletes’ mental health, self-care for coaches/staff, and fostering competitiveness within your team.
