COLUMBUS, Ohio – Upcoming seniors Natalie Spooner and Laura McIntosh were among 40 players to be invited by Hockey Canada for the National Women’s Under-22/Development Team camp held August 7-16 at the Canadian International Hockey Academy in Rockland, Ont.

The 40 athletes will be split into two teams and will participate in practices and intrasquad games over the course of the week. Following the camp, Hockey Canada and the team’s coaching staff will continue to evaluate the players as they compete with their respective teams during the 2011-12 season. Those selected will compete at the 2012 MLP Cup next January in Germany for Team Canada.

Both Spooner and McIntosh were members of the U-22 team that captured gold at the 2011 MLP Cup held in Switzerland. Spooner, of Scarborough, Ontario, also earned gold with the U-22 team at the 2010 MLP Cup and silver at the 2009 MLP Cup. This past April, Spooner was a member of the Canadian National team that took silver at the IIHF World Women’s Championships.

Along with her 2011 MLP Cup experience, McIntosh, of Waterloo, Ontario, won the silver medal with the U-18 Team at the IIHF World Women’s U-18 Championships in 2008. She has participated in a handful of Hockey Canada camps, including the 2010 Canadian National Women’s Program Strength and Conditioning Camp.
