%^$Ohio State softball players Cheryl Palaroan (Jr., Reno, Nev.) and Renae Weigel (So., Coldwater, Ohio) were both named today to the 1998 Louisville Slugger/Great Lakes Region All-America second team. %^$
%^$”These honors are a direct result of the work they put into their respective games in the offseason,” OSU head coach Linda Kalafatis said. “We expected the both of them to be solid contributors but never did we expect two incredible seasons like they had. They are more than deserving of this honor.” %^$
%^$Palaroan started a career high 44 games and responded fabulously. She led the team with 22 stolen bases, the third highest single season total in Ohio State history. She also posted career highs with a .331 batting average, 44 hits, two doubles and a triple. The outfielder had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage (45 putouts with three assists). %^$
%^$As for Weigel, she led the Buckeyes with a .344 batting average and was second on the team with 31 runs batted in. Her batting average was an improvement of almost 125 points from her freshman season. She started all 56 games at shortstop for OSU. %^$
%^$The Buckeyes finished the season with a 33-23 overall record.
