COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team notched eight hits for a 5-3 victory today over the Wisconsin Badgers at Buckeye Field. Ohio State improves to 22-19 overall and 4-6 in the Big Ten, while the Badgers fall to 25-20 overall and 2-6 in the Big Ten.
Ohio State posted four of their five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Stacy Roth doubled to centerfield to score Anna Smith. Roth would then advance home on a pass ball. Kristine Himes and Natalie Woods both followed with RBI-singles for the 4-0 lead.
Wisconsin rallied back in the top of the second as Jade Gosse notched a two-run single to the rightfield corner.
But the Buckeyes maintain their lead, adding one more run off a Woods’ double in the bottom of third inning.
Senior Toni Hileman, after relieving starter Katie Chain in the second inning, pitched effectively for her sixth win of the season. She gave up no hits in five innings of action, while Wisconsin’s Jennifer Cummings fell to 4-9 on the season, after giving up four runs, one walk and striking out three.
The Buckeyes will take on Wisconsin tomorrow at Buckeye Field beginning at 1 p.m.
