%^$Columbus, Ohio – In non-conference action, the Buckeyes (19-18) battle the Cleveland State Vikings on the road , Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.%^$

%^$On Tuesday, the Vikings fell in a doubleheader with the Dayton Flyers, 4-1 and 9-8, to fall to 15-26 for the season. Tiffany Stocker leads the team offensively with a .295 batting average. 41 hits and seven runs batted in.%^$

%^$The Buckeyes leads the all-time series with a 11-1 record. The Buckeyes split last year’s doubleheader to the Vikings, falling in the first game, 2-1, but winning the second game, 3-2.%^$

%^$The Buckeyes went 1-3 this past weekend, falling to Michigan in two games (L, 8-2, 7-3), but spliting the series with Michigan State (L, 7-6, W, 8-4) . Stacy Roth (So., Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) blasted a grand slam in the fourth inning to lead the Buckeyes over the Spartans, 8-4, on Sunday. Two other Buckeyes followed with home runs, Renae Weigel (Sr., Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) and Sarah West (So., Hillard, Ohio/Hillard Davidson)%^$


Anna Smith – Smith has 22 stolen bases on the season, placingher third on OSU’s single season record list for thefts. She alsohas a nine-game hitting streak.%^$


Stacy Roth – All-Big Ten candidate Roth leads the Buckeyes witha .389 batting average, 44 hits, 5 home runs and 31 runs battedin.%^$


Sarah West – In conference action, West is ranked third on theteam with a batting average of .300, six hits and two home runs.%^$


Jennifer Link – She leads the freshman class with a battingaverage of .273, 30 hits and 13 runs batted in.%^$


Toni Hileman – She has a 3.73 ERA in conference games andnotched a win over Michigan State and Bowling Green last week.%^$

%^$With four home runs posted over the weekend, the Buckeyes have now broken a team record for home runs in a season. Currently the Buc keyes have 19 for the season, breaking the 1997 record of 18.%^$

%^$Renae Weigel also posted her 12th home run of her career against Michigan State on Sunday, tying her for first place on Ohio State’s all-time record list for HR’s. Stacy Roth and Sarah West only need one more home run to tie the single-season record of six held by Renae Weigel.%^$

%^$Anna Smith (So., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) is currently on a nine-game hitting streak. She also is second on the team with a .330 batting average, 37 hits and five runs batted in.%^$

%^$As a team, Ohio State is ranked third in batting in conference play . Ohio State is batting .295 in the Big Ten and .271 overall. Individually, Stacy Roth is second with a .571 BA, 12 hits and 11 runs batted in.%^$

%^$Anna Smith is now in third place on the OSU single-season record for thefts with 22. She only needs four more to pass Kathy Boettcher (1990) for first place on Ohio State’s season record for steals.%^$

%^$Jennifer Link (Fr., Yorba Linda, Calif./Sonora) is ranked third on the team with a batting average of .273. She leads her class with 30 hits and 24 runs on the season.%^$

%^$In the 2000 NCAA Division I softball preseason poll, conducted by the NCAA Division I Women’s Softball Committee, the Ohio State Buckeyes are ranked eighth in the Mideast Region Poll. Big Ten rival Michigan captured the No. 1 ranking.%^$

%^$In the April 9 USATODAY/NFCA Poll, the Big Ten Conference has two teams ranked in the Top 15. Michigan and Iowa are ranked No. 12 and No. 13, respectively. As a conference, the Big Ten ranks fifth in the nation with a batting average of .274 and seventh with an ERA of 2.27.%^$

%^$While Renae Weigel only needs one more home runs to break the career record for home runs, she also only needs eight more runs batted in to break the all-time career RBI total of 97 at OSU.%^$

%^$Chrissy Fowler will be out for several weeks after notching a foul ball into her right eye on Sunday against Michigan State. Fowler sustained a bruised right eye.%^$

%^$Senior Renae Weigel was named by her teammates as captain of the 2000 softball team. As the only Buckeye who has been at Ohio State all four seasons, Weigel will resume her role as Ohio State’s top hitter and leader of the squad. Last season, the Coldwater, Ohio native had another breakout season, posting a single-season home run mark with six and finishing third overall in both batting average (.301) and conference BA (.324).%^$

%^$Jaime Chenevey returns to the Buckeyes this season as an assistant coach. She was a four-time letterwinner and was selected as a second-team all-Big Ten selection as the Buckeyes’ catcher. She still holds the No. 2 spot on the Ohio State career home run ladder with nine. Last summer, She competed on the Akron Racers of the Women’s Professional Softbal League with former Buckeye Jodi Dolan. She is a graduate student of Ohio State in agriculture education.%^$

%^$The Buckeyes host Minnesota on Friday in a doubleheader and Wisconsin on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) in a two-game series. The Buckeyes will then take on Wright State in a doubleheader on April 25 at 3 p.m.%^$

%^$ON DECK IN 2001
%^$Coach Kalafatis signed one of the best recruiting classes in the nation to be added next season. Wendy Allen (Moreno Valley, Calif.), Kristi DeVries (Corona Calif.) and Beth McAbier (Carrollton, Ohio) all signed letters of intents to attend Ohio State in 2001. Allen, a left-hand pitcher, was one-of-16 players in the nation to be named a National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association All-American. DeVries is a high school All-American pitcher who notched a 24-6 record last season with 321 strikeouts and 23 walks. McAbier, a shortstop, was a two-time all-conference pick and three-sport student-athlete at Carrollton High School.%^$

%^$Ohio State will celebrate its 10-year anniversary of the 1990 Big Ten Championship this year. In 1990, Ohio State captured a 39-25 record, defeating Iowa to win the conference championship and head to the NCAA Tournament.%^$
