COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$The Ohio State softball team defeated Wright State today, 5-3, in the first game and, 2-1, in the second game of a doubleheader at Buckeye Field. In game one, Anna Smith stole two bases to establish an OSU single-season record for thefts. She now has 25 for the season. Ohio State improves to 24-20 overall, heading into Big Ten action this weekend against Northwestern and Iowa.%^$

%^$Ohio State immediately scored in the bottom of the first inning as Smith led off with a single to the shortstop. Jennifer Link followed with a single to advance Smith. Smith would then steal third and score off a throwing error from the catcher. Ohio State added two more runs off back-to-back singles from Kristine Himes and Holly English. Ohio State led 3-0.%^$

%^$Pitcher Katie Chain held the Raiders scoreless for three innings until the top of the fourth inning. Wright State would score two runs off a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to cut the Buckeyes’ lead to one.%^$

%^$However, the Buckeyes rallied in the bottom of the six, scoring off a Himes two-RBI double for the 5-3 win.%^$

%^$Katie Chain (10-7) posted her 10th win of the season, giving up three runs and striking out two in six innings of play. Kristi Martin recorded the save, as she struck out the last batter.%^$

%^$ Game Two %^$

%^$Wright State went up 1-0, as Jess Horn scored off an OSU throwing error in the third inning. Ohio State rallied back in the bottom when Kristine Himes was sent home on a wild pitch from Wright State’s Kristin Bultinck.%^$

%^$Ohio State would not score the winning run until the bottom of the sixth, as Sarah West scored Rogeanna Hottinger on a grounder to the third baseman.%^$

%^$Kristi Martin completed the game, giving up one run off eight hits and striking out five for her sixth win of the season.%^$

%^$Ohio State will next take on Northwestern in a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. (CST) in Evanston, Ill. The Buckeyes will then battle Iowa on Saturday (6 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) CST.
