Minneapolis, Minn. – The Ohio State Buckeyes (20-31 overall, 5-18 in Big Ten)and the Minnesota Golden Gophers (42-18 overall, 15-8 in Big Ten) engaged in a classic pitching dual which saw two runs cross homeplate, both of which were unearned. Unfortunately, the Buckeyes found themselves on the wrong end of the runs and lost both games of the doubleheader by a 1-0 margin.

Game one went eight innings with the Gophers Steph Midthun driving in the winning run. The Buckeyes out hit UM by a 6-5 margin but an error in the final inning gave the Gophers extra life.

Inside the circle, Toni Hileman (Jr., Alliance, Ohio) mastered a Minnesota attack that entered the game leading the conference with 40 home runs. She retired 12 of the first 13 batters she faced, struckout six, gave up one run (unearned) and saw her record fall to 7-20. UMs Steph Klaviter (19-9) took the win.

In game two, Meaghan Robinson (Sr., Naples, Fla.) dominated the Gophers in her final college appearance. She pitched a complete game and gave up the only run of the game (unearned) in the top of the fifth inning. UMs Heather Brown (12-1) pitched 4.2 innings to take the win. Michelle Harrison pitched the final 2.1 innings to earn her fifth save of the year. Offensively for OSU, Holly English (So., Akron, Ohio) finished the afternoon going 3-for-4

The Buckeyes will end the 1999 season tomorrow with a single-game against Minnesota at noon.
