COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Buckeyes, in the midst of their spring practices, played Tennessee and North Carolina in scrimmage games today in Knoxville, Tenn. Playing a modified 60-minute game with 30-minute halves, the Buckeyes dropped a 1-0 decision to powerful North Carolina and then shut out Tennessee, 3-0, behind the key play of freshman goalkeeper Kristin Touche.
Scoring goals against the Volunteers were Caitlin Colfer, Genna Brand and Lara Dickenmann, who is training with the team as preparation for her Swiss National Team responsibilities. Touche, playing in her first action as a Buckeye, was outstanding in net according to head coach Lori Walker. Included in Touche’s efforts was a save on a penalty kick to preserve the shutout over Tennessee.
“The North Carolina game was full of pressure and we played well,” Walker said. “It is this kind of pressure situation we want this team to be in during the spring season.”
The team next plays April 6…a 3 p.m. game at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium against Cincinnati.
