So, What Are You Studying?

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team is comprised of 25 student-athletes who are pursuing 16 different majors. Leading the way are three biology majors (Leanne Bough, Louise Fobe and Emma Goldean) and a trio of marketing majors (Sammy Stone, who graduated with her bachelor’s degree in August, Nikki Trzaska and Jessica Hourihane).

On a roster that represented nine different states and three different countries, it should be surprising that the Buckeyes’ chosen fields of study are diverse as well. Consider:

  • In addition to biology being a popular major, the Buckeyes also have an animal sciences major (Julianna Sweeney) and two health professions exploration majors (Megan McKenna and Sarah Charley).
  • In the financial field, there is one accounting major and two finance majors.
  • Newcomer Lotte Algra, from The Netherlands, in enrolled in Ohio State’s sports management master’s degree program.
  • Six of the 16 different majors have multiple student-athletes enrolled: biology, marketing, communication, exploration, finance and health professions exploration.

No matter the major, Buckeye field hockey players have consistently produced exceptional results in the classroom. In fact, for 15 straight years Ohio State has placed at least nine people on the annual NFHCA National Academic Squad.
