COLUMBUS, Ohio – Olivia Sneed, a Kansas state singles champion, has committed to the Ohio State women’s tennis team and will join the program this fall. Sneed will join Anna Sanford, an Ohio state doubles champion, as the Buckeyes’ freshman class this fall. The duo gives Ohio State the No. 11-ranked recruiting class in the nation, according to tennisrecruiting.net.
“We are very excited to have Olivia as a Buckeye,” head coach Melissa Schaub said. “She has had an extremely successful junior career and we know she will make an immediate impact on our program this upcoming season.”
As a senior in the fall of 2013, Sneed, from Prairie Village, Kan. captured the state singles title and the Shawnee Mission East squad claimed the 6A team state championship. Sneed has been ranked No. 1 in the Missouri Valley region and is slotted No. 18 among freshmen for the upcoming year by tennisrecruiting.net.
Sneed has been successful in tournaments around the country. She finished first in singles and second in doubles at a USTA National Segment tournament in 2013 and was second in doubles at the National Open in Waco, Texas, finishing third in doubles in a clay court tournament. She received a sportsmanship award at a Fed Cup event as well.
In 2012, Sneed was first in both singles and doubles at the national open in Midland and claimed the doubles title in segment tournaments in Illinois, Las Vegas and St. Louis, finishing second in singles in both Las Vegas and St. Louis and in doubles at the Easter Bowl. In 2011, Sneed won singles and doubles in both the Oklahoma City and Las Vegas segment tournaments.
