COLUMBUS, Ohio — After notching the first hat trick of her career, Tatum Skaggs has received the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week, powered by GoodWood Hockey, conference officials announced on Tuesday.

Skaggs has had a knack for finding the back of the net since starting her Buckeye career, but the rookie took things to a new level in Friday’s series opener with No. 9 Robert Morris. Her first goal came near the end of the first period, lighting the lamp on a power play with 14 seconds left in the period. Skaggs responded to the first RMU goal of the game by scoring her second goal of the evening with 7:00 left to play in the second period. She finished the hat trick with an un-assisted goal just under four minutes into the third period.

The rookie from Hartland, Wisconsin leads both the team and the entire WCHA with 11 goals this season, while her .69 goals-per-game also lead the WCHA. She ranks third among conference rookies in points with 16, and second in points-per-game averaging 1.00. Her 16 points come in at third on the team, behind fellow rookie Emma Maltais and junior Maddy Field.

Skaggs is no stranger to earning WCHA honors. She opened the season by winning the Offensive Player of the Week award for her four-point weekend against Rensselaer. The following week saw her earn the Rookie of the Week award with another four-point weekend at No. 4 Minnesota as the Buckeyes knocked off the Gopher’s in Minneapolis for the first time in over a decade.

The No. 5 Buckeyes return to Columbus to host St. Cloud State this weekend. The series opener gets underway at 6:07 p.m. ET on Friday at the OSU Ice Rink.
