COLUMBUS, Ohio – The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) has released its list of team and individual academic honorees for the 2009-10 season and the Ohio State women’s gymnastics team was well represented. Six Buckeyes earned individual honors for having a cumulative grade point average over 3.5, while the team averaged an impressive GPA of 3.22 overall.
Earning national honors were Beth Ann Ballard, Hillary Dow, Sarah Gillespie, Nicole Krauter, Karissa Lam and Jessica Staton. Krauter, a rising junior who was an academic All-Big Ten honoree this past season, received her second national academic award, while Staton earned her third consecutive All-America award.
Dow, who studies exercise science, capped her final year as a Buckeye earning her first national academic award. She earned two major scholastic honors earlier this year, including being named the Leann Grimes-Davidge award winner and was one of four graduating student-athletes to receive the Corwin A. Fergus Memorial Award.
Ballard, Gillespie and Lam also received the national academic honor. Ballard, a 2010 graduate, completed her four-year degree in communication, receiving her second national academic award. Gillespie, a rising sophomore earned her first national academic honor. Lam, a native of Ocean City Md., is a walk-on from the Ohio State Club team.
