COLUMBUS, Ohio – Six members of the Ohio State men’s tennis team have been given the honor of being an ITA Scholastic Athlete and the team was named an All-Academic Team.
Martin Joyce, Riley Reist, Kyle Seelig, Mikael Torpegaard, Jacob Wareti and JJ Wolf all had above a 3.5 grade point average this academic year. The six were also Academic All-Big Ten honorees as well as OSU Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2017 and spring 2018).
The Buckeyes had another stellar season, winning both the Big Ten regular season and the Big Ten Tournament title. OSU also made a run to the NCAA Championship match before falling to host Wake Forest in the final. The Buckeyes also swept the All-Big Ten yearly awards for the third time since 2011 as Ty Tucker was named Coach of the Year, Torpegaard was named Athlete of the Year and John McNally was the Freshman of the Year. Wolf and Joyce also claimed All-Big Ten honors while Torpegaard and Joyce teamed to finish runner-up in the NCAA Doubles Championship, earning All-American honors.
