Buckeye Coach John Cooper wasn’t happy about the weather Friday.

“We had planned to go outside and in full pads today,” Cooper said. “But the rain forced us inside and we just practiced in Buckeye Gear (shoulder pads and helmets, no hip or thigh pads). It is hard to get much of a read inside.”

Still, Cooper saw some things he liked.

“Spring is a time for experimenting and we are throwing a lot at them right now, but they seem to be responding very well,” he said. “They are working hard and as long as that continues, I am pleased.”

Asked about the progress of the offense under first-year coordinator Chuck Stobart, Cooper replied: “Again, it is too early to tell, but I think we are distributing the ball a little better and that keeps everyone up beat.”

The Buckeyes are off until Monday. They conclude spring drills April 29 with the annual Scarlet & Gray Game in Crew Stadium. Tickets for the latter are on sale at Ticketmaster ($5 each) and must be purchased in advance.
