COLUMBUS, Ohio – Usually what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. But in this case, a couple of performances from this past weekend need to be acknowledged. Ohio State split a pair of games at the South Point Shootout and two players from the talented freshmen class stepped up and played key roles.
On Friday night vs. South Dakota, Slovakia native Rebeka Mikulasikova went 5-of-9 from the floor, 2-of-3 from long range and 7-of-8 from the free throw line to finish with 19 points. That was the most points scored in a game by a Buckeye so far this season. She also added four rebounds and a steal in just 23 minutes. For the weekend, Mikulasikova led the team at 14.0 ppg and shot 50 percent from the floor.
Saturday, in the win over Northern Iowa, Jacy Sheldon notched her first collegiate double-double. She was 5-of-6 from the floor and finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Dublin, Ohio native also had a game-high four steals to go along with her two assists. Through seven games, Sheldon has made the most threes on the team and is shooting 40 percent from long range.
The Buckeyes are 4-3 on the season and currently have the toughest schedule in the country. It won’t get any easier this week as they will host No. 2 Louisville Thursday in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and the game will be televised on BTN.
