COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior captains Kollin Moore and Luke Pletcher closed a chapter on ‘Senior Day,’ both recording bout victories in their final match in front of the home crowd. Ohio State won seven of 10 bouts in total, disbanding the Northwestern Wildcats by a final score of 28-10.

Moore and Pletcher each improved to 23-0 on the season to maintain their top standing at 197 and 141 pounds, respectively. Sammy Sasso likely cemented his No. 1 ranking for another week as well with his 9-3 decision over Eric Yang in the 149-pound tussle.

The other four Buckeye victors all did so with bonus points tacked on. Fritz Schierl received the starting nod at 174 pounds, and made good on it with a fall. The Schierl pin activated a free chicken strip promotion for the 4,657 fans in attendance. Yummy. Rocky Jordan, Gary Traub and Jordan Decatur all registered major decisions.

A lull came over the Covelli Center when Shayne Oster came from behind and squeaked out a 10-9 win in the opening bout at 165 pounds. The quiet atmosphere was short-lived, however, as Schierl electrified the crowd with a smothering body lock for his second takedown.

Schierl took it up a notch later in the match, clasping a cradle and recording the pin.

Jordan needed another takedown with 30 seconds to go in his outing to secure a major decision, and he did just that.

Moore was met with a challenge at 197 pounds. His opponent, Lucas Davison, is ranked 13th nationally and hadn’t dropped  match since the Midlands in December. He led momentarily, 3-2, before Moore turned it on en route to a 14-9 decision and shared one last special moment with the home crowd (as did fellow senior Pletcher later in the afternoon).

‘Gas Tank’ Gary  added another win to his stack, number 19 on the season. He was dominant throughout his final showing of the season in front of a fan base which has latched on to him as the home favorite.

Jordan Decatur did not face third-ranked Sebastian Rivera, but instead squared off against the reserve 133-pounder Dylan Utterback. Decatur scored early and often and blew the match open when nabbing six points and just missing out on the pin early in the first period.

Pletcher and Sasso came to the mat next, doing what was expected and maintaining their top spot in the rankings with a pair of triumphs.
