COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four senior swimmers on the Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team closed out their careers at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on a winning note Saturday, Jan. 22, as the Buckeyes defeated Michigan State, 178-114, for their seventh win of the season against just one defeat. A fifth senior – diver Katie Bell – was also part of the honors for the day but she’ll have one more McCorkle moment as a Buckeye: the NCAA diving zone championships March 11-13.
The four senior swimmers are Anita Beck, Samantha Cheverton, Shelby Gordon and Morgan Menzie. The four were the last remaining swimmers on the team who experienced a coaching change during their career at Ohio State and even though it may not have always been easy, they handled the change with grace and class and they will always be heroes in the eyes of Dorenkott and his assistant coach, Stefanie Williams.
“This group of seniors has been excellent role models for change, for growth and for leadership,” the third-year coach Dorenkott said. “Twenty-five years from now this group will still see their fingerprints on the program. The swimmers mean a lot to me and I will be forever grateful to them. They had to deal with more changes as a class than any other class I’ve worked with.”
A photo album of the senior ceremonies is attached. Enjoy, even though the captions have a hard time keeping up with the images. Technology! A video clip of Anita Beck and Katie Bell is also attached, compliments of our new toy, a FlipCam. Go Bucks!
