COLUMBUS, Ohio – After backing the Buckeyes to a sweep of Minnesota on the road last weekend, Sophie Jaques and Andrea Braendli have earned WCHA weekly awards. The conference announced today that Jaques was named Defender of the Week and Braendli was named Goaltender of the Week.
Jaques earns her second career WCHA weekly honor this week following her two-goal performance against Minnesota on Saturday. The senior from Toronto, Ontario scored two power play goals in the second game against the Gophers to help the team to its second consecutive sweep of Minnesota at Ridder Arena. She is currently the only defender nationally with two power play goals on the year. Jaques added an assist on the night for three points and finished the weekend +3 on the ice for the Buckeyes.
Braendli picks up her second WCHA honor in as many weeks after her performance in goal against Minnesota. She recorded 62 saves on the weekend and picked up her 50th win as a Buckeye. The Zurich, Switzerland native finished the series with a .954 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average throughout her in 120:00 on the ice. Braendli now has a .963 save percentage through three games this season.
