Scarlet Evens Series with 8-0 Victory


For the second game in a row, Team Scarlet scored four runs in the first inning and sophomore Nate Haberthier made sure that lead held as Scarlet evened the series with an 8-0 victory in Game 2 on Saturday.

Haberthier went 5.2 scoreless innings as Scarlet’s starter, allowing just four singles and striking out three. Mitch Milheim came on in the sixth to get the final out and then finished the game in the seventh.

At the plate, the big blow in the first inning was a grand slam off the bat of senior catcher Brent Todys. Scarlet added two more runs via the wild pitch in the fifth and sixth and then three consecutive doubles from Mitchell Okuley, Colton Bauer and Kade Kern in the seventh pushed the final two runs across. Bauer was 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI and two runs scored.

For Gray, Marcus Ernst continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Trey Lipsey, Zach Dezenzo and Joey Aden also had a knock in the game. On the mound, Isaiah Coupet settled in after the first in grand slam. He allowed just one more run and one more hit over 4.2 innings, while striking out seven. Gavin Bruni and Jake Mills each made their first appearance in the series as they covered the final 2.1 innings for Gray.

Game 3 will be Tuesday night with first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
