COLUMBUS, Ohio The No. 15/13 (NFCA/USA Softball polls) Ohio State softball team welcomes non-conference foe Evansville to New Buckeye Field for one game at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Buckeyes, who moved up a spot in the national rankings since last week, are on an eight-game winning streak with a 32-6 overall record and a 9-1 mark in the Big Ten. The Purple Aces are 10-25 on the season, coming off a two-game conference sweep of Bradley last Saturday.
Halfway through the Big Ten schedule, Ohio State moved into a tie with Northwestern for the top spot in the conference with its sweep of Illinois over the weekend. The second half of the schedule begins this weekend with two road games against Wisconsin. On April 8, the Buckeyes secured their 30th win of the season and marked the sixth season in a row that they have won at least 30 games, the longest such streak in program history. The record for wins in a season is 55, set in 2002 (55-14).
The Buckeyes are coming off a 17-15 win over Illinois Sunday, during which Sam Marder belted the team’s second grand slam of the week. The shot over the left field wall stands as the 39th career homerun for the USA Softball player of the year finalists who is now two round-trippers away from tying the all-time Ohio State record 41 set by Kristine Himes in 2000-03.
