RALEIGH, N.C. Sam Marder hit her Big Ten-leading 11th homerun of the season for the No. 15-ranked Ohio State softball team as it fell to N.C. State, 2-1, in eight innings Wednesday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader at Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Stadium. The loss is the second-consecutive for the Buckeyes and drops their record to 22-5 on the season, while the Wolf pack improves to 15-10 overall.

In the top of the third, Marder homered off the flagpole in right field to put the Buckeyes on top 1-0 and give the All-American from Calabasas, Calif., 11 on the season. With 35 career round-trippers, Marder is now within six of the all-time Ohio State record 41 set by Kristine Himes (2000-03). N.C. State put a runner in scoring position in the bottom half of the inning, but pitcher Lindsay Bodeker made the final out to keep Ohio State in the lead.

The Buckeyes threatened in their half of the fourth and sixth, but a strikeout ended both attempts and left runners on base. N.C. State would tie it up in the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer by Kristine Bechtholdt and earn the win in the bottom of the eighth after loading the bases and sending Alyssa Ishibashi home when Claudia Cooper was hit by a pitch.

In the circle, Bodeker absorbed just her second loss of the season, falling to 8-2.

Following the second game in the Wednesday doubleheader, the Buckeyes return to action this weekend at New Buckeye Field with a conference series vs. Iowa. Ohio State faces the Hawkeyes at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission to all games is free.
