Academic Development: Support participation in academic opportunities that enrich a student-athlete’s collegiate experience, in and out of the classroom.
Post-Graduate Test Preparation
SASSO partners with Kaplan to provide student-athletes the opportunity to gain valuable study materials through coursework to prepare them for the MCAT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, PCAT, OAT, and DAT. Student-athletes can participate in one of three types of courses: in-class, live online, and online self-paced. The program is currently operated on a first-come first-serve basis. In addition to test prep, student-athletes can be reimbursed for official graduate/professional exam fees through Athletic Compliance or SASSO.
Study Abroad Scholarships
Since 2012, the Department of Athletics has fully funded 10 student-athletes to study abroad each year through Ohio State’s Office of International Affairs. In addition to academic study abroad programs offered through the University, several student-athletes have participated in the Coach for College program. CLICK HERE FOR APPLICATION >>
Research
SASSO promotes opportunities for student-athletes to get involved in research and highlights student-athletes who participate in the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. This University event is coordinated by the Undergraduate Research Office and allows students to showcase outstanding research, scholarship, and creative activity. Student-athletes can learn more about research here: http://research.osu.edu/students/undergraduate/
Annual Faculty-Staff Appreciation Event (Hosted by SAAC)
Each year the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosts its Annual Faculty-Staff Appreciation event. This lunch or dinner event provides student-athletes the opportunity to show gratitude to the advisors, professors, and faculty/staff members who help coach them in the classroom.
Scholar-Athlete Banquet
SASSO staff assist in identifying and vetting student-athletes for a variety of postgraduate scholarship opportunities. There are scholarships which students can only use for study at The Ohio State University and those that are available through external sources (ex. B1G Ten Conference, NCAA).
Speakers
SASSO occasionally hosts events that introduce student-athletes to academic role models. In 2015, Myron Rolle – Rhodes Scholar, medical student, philanthropist, and former Division I football student-athlete – visited Ohio State and delivered a powerful message to Buckeye student-athletes.
